Are Designers all “Crazy”?

Are designers all “crazy”? Well, let me tell you – the only difference between them is whether they know it or not. And trust me, those who know they’re “crazy” are usually milder cases. But let’s be real, to achieve greatness in art, you have to be crazy enough. Just look at history – Van Gogh, Picasso, Gauguin – which one doesn’t look like a “crazy” person?

Now, most designers aren’t masters, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have “symptoms”. One common symptom among designers is “decision paralysis” syndrome. I mean, have you ever noticed how much designers struggle with choosing colors? That’s why there’s a whole company called Pantone that specializes in this business. But choosing colors is just the beginning. Design work includes many other things that can trigger “decision paralysis” syndrome.

So, what’s the solution? There’s a specialized discipline called “user experience” to help designers make choices. And guess who invented it? A psychologist named Norman.

But here’s the thing – if you’re a designer, you should admit your “crazy” problem now. Don’t believe me? Well, I’m a designer myself, and trust me, no one with a “normal” brain could write something like this. Our brains try all kinds of wrong combinations until they can be combined together. And that’s what makes us unique – our ability to combine “wrongs” is a kind of “talent”, even though it’s called “crazy”.

So, let’s embrace our “crazy” and change the world. As Apple’s classic commercial says, “While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”” Keep designing, you “crazy” geniuses!
